Yuejia Luo, Ph.D., M.D.

Principal Investigator, Shenzhen Institute of Neuroscience

Professor Luo has received awards of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the New Century National Hundred, the special government allowances from the State Council, the One-Hundred Person Project of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen National Leading Person, etc. He had previously served as Dean of School of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at Beijing Normal University (2009-2013), and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning (2005-2011) and of the Key Laboratory of Mental Health at Chinese Academy of Sciences (2002-2005). He earned his PhD degree at the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1997. His research has been focusing on understanding the neural mechanisms of emotion and social cognition using neuroimaging methods. His research achievements includes: 1) Establishment of the Chinese Affective Information System (CAIS), including Chinese Affective Face Picture System (CAFPS), Chinese Affective Digital Sound System (CADS), Chinese Affective Picture System (CEPS) and Chinese Emotional Video System (CEVS); 2) Putting forward the model of three stages of emotional word processing; 3) Investigation on the psychological and social characteristics in Chinese population when they are judging a genuine or false smile in the field of social cognition; 4) Investigation on the neural mechanisms and treatments of emotional disorders and emotion-related cognitive disorders from multiple perspectives. He has published more than 400 papers and received more than 10 prizes. His work has been funded by the key project of National Natural Science Foundation of China and National Program on Key Basic Research Project (973), with a total amount of 32 millions RMB (19 millions in the last five years).
